Rings

There are many kinds of men’s rings. Some are just for show, others indicate belonging to a group, status or power, and some are for more practical purposes.

The puzzle ring

The puzzle ring is not only a fun toy, but in some circles indicates having been deployed with the military. It started with the Cyprus FN operation (UNFICYP in 1964-1992), where soldiers went to the Turkish side and bought puzzle rings. In some places, they are referred to as Turkish wedding rings. This became an indication of deployment and a way to recognise other veterans. With it came a challenge: Throw the ring before a fellow veteran, so it became undone. Then he would have one minute to put it back together or buy beer. If he could on the other hand, he would be buying the beer.

The signet ring was made for signing documents and closing letters, while at the same indicating under whose authority it was done.

And then there is the wedding ring. A promise of many tings.
